Apart from their magical effect on the landscape, I associate them with Cecil Beaton and those very romantic photographs he took at his country house, Ashcombe, in the Thirties and early Forties: I bought a book of these photographs aged 16 and almost all of them have these wonderful backgrounds of cow parsley, hogweed and other wild flowers...
